About Me
Hello, I'm Gilles Gignac. I was born and raised in a small town in Ontario, Canada. I moved to Melbourne, Australia in 2001 to complete a PhD (received 2004). I now live in Perth, Australia and work as am associate professor in the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia. I consider myself principally a differential psychologist (you can see my publications on Google Scholar). However, ever since I started working as an academic, I have been asked to teach one or more of the school's quantitative methods units. Although I have developed an interest in statistics in its own right, I mostly have an interest in statistics because the more you know about statistics, the better you will be able to ask and answer questions empirically in an insightful and compelling manner. Also, there is the fourth reason we do statistics to consider 😉 (as I describe in Chapter 1).
Finally, some of you may know my voice - I'm the person behind the how2stats YouTube channel.
About How2statsbook (Online Edition 1)
How2statsbook (Online Edition 1) is a purely digital approach to learning and teaching statistics. The textbook chapters are available free of charge in PDF format. The many videos that are mentioned throughout the chapters are hosted on YouTube. My commitment is to make the PDF chapters and videos available free of charge indefinitely. I intend to have a physical print copy of How2statsbook in the medium term future.
You will be able to download all of the data files I generated for the textbook, so that you can follow along with the analyses. I charge a small fee for those (see 'Data Files' tab on this site).
At this stage, I consider How2statsbook's chapters 1 through to 16 to be essentially complete, although I will be adding more 'Advanced Topics' to many of the chapters over the years. I will also be adding more entire chapters over the years, so, stay in touch.
